(06.07.2020) Rider added to Duquesne's 2020-2021 schedule

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

With each day that passes, it seems as if a new team has joined the slate of non-conference teams that Duquesne will play during the 2020-2021 season.

Pittsburgh Sports Now reported on Saturday that the Dukes are set to host the Rider Broncs this coming season. The date of the game is yet to be determined.

In 2019-2020, Rider went 18-12 with a 12-8 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. As the conference's third seed, the Broncs were set to play the sixth-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles in the conference tournament quarterfinals before the remainder of the tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Broncs were led by Dimencio Vaughn, who averaged 14.8 points/game. Following the season, Vaughn transferred to Ole Miss.

This will not be Rider's first trip to Pittsburgh in recent memory, however.

In 2017-2018, the Broncs were defeated by the Robert Morris Colonials, 78-75, at PPG Paints Arena on December 6. Due to construction of the UPMC Events Center, Robert Morris was forced to split the season's games between PPG Paints Arena and A.J. Palumbo Center.

Rider University is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, approximately 330 miles from the campus of Duquesne University. It is located approximately 40 miles northeast of Philadelphia and approximately five miles north of downtown Trenton.

This will be the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
