Updated: Sep 23, 2021

Lehigh Valley uses late rally to win second straight.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Josh Stephen scored on a wild pitch by Joan Baez to give the Lehigh Valley IronPigs a 8-7 walkoff victory over the Rochester Red Wings at Coca-Cola Park on Wednesday night.

The victory was the second consecutive for the IronPigs (2-0) to begin the 2021 season, with both coming in walkoff fashion. The Red Wings (0-2) took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but faltered by giving up three runs in the final two frames.

Lehigh Valley scored four runs across the first three innings, but Rochester responded with four runs of their own in the fourth and fifth innings.

The IronPigs would tie it in the bottom of the fifth, but the Red Wings reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth via a two-run homerun off the bat of Yasmany Tomas.

Lehigh Valley would load the bases with no outs in the eighth inning before run-scoring singles from Luke Williams and Cornelius Randolph.

Josh Stephen led off the home half of the ninth with a walk. He would advance to second base on a balk, before back-to-back wild pitches brought him across for the winning run.

Williams and C.J. Chatham each went 3-for-5 with a double for the IronPigs.

Tyler Eppler pitched 4.1 innings of relief for the Red Wings, while also drawing a walk and recording a single at the dish.

Rochester and Lehigh Valley will meet again at Coca-Cola Park for the third game of a six-game series on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
