INDIANAPOLIS - Darien Craighead recorded just three shots, but each of those shots found the back of the net in the Indy Fuel's 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday evening.
It was an all-around suffocating effort from the Fuel (7-11-2-1), who outshot the Cyclones (12-11-0-0) by a 42-16 mark (including a 20-4 advantage in the opening period).
Goals certainly weren't at a premium from the opening puck drop. Cincinnati's Justin Vaive scored just 48 seconds into the game, but Indy swiftly responded with a goal from Spencer Watson.
From there, the Fuel took over. Craighead's first of three tallies and a Seamus Malone power-play marker helped Indy take a 3-1 lead into the locker room at the first intermission.
Another power-play goal from Jared Thomas helped Indy push its lead to three just over a minute into the second period. Cincy's Johnny Coughlin countered with a goal to make it 4-2, but Craighead scored his second (this one on the power play) to push Indy's lead back to three heading into the second intermission.
In the final period, Watson added his second of the game, while Craighead topped off the scoring with another power-play tally.
The Cyclones accumulated a total of 36 penalty minutes in the five-goal defeat.
Brent Gates recorded four assists for the Fuel, while Thomas added two assists to go along with his goal.
Indy will stay at home Saturday night for a clash with the Kalamazoo Wings, while Cincinnati will head northeast to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a meeting with the Fort Wayne Komets.
