(04.30.2020) Robert Morris' 2020-2021 non-conference schedule starting to take shape

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

It has been almost two months since Robert Morris defeated Saint Francis(Pennsylvania) to win the 2020 Northeast Conference Tournament and be well on their way to the 2020 NCAA Tournament.

It is still about six months until college basketball picks up where it left off before the pandemic, but next season's non-conference schedule is starting to shape up for the Colonials.

According to the 2020-21 D1 Docket, Robert Morris currently has six non-conference meetings on the schedule, with four of those having a confirmed date.

On November 28, the Colonials will travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in a return game of a home-and-home. In 2019, the Colonials defeated the Chippewas by an 83-79 score at UPMC Events Center.

On December 2, the Colonials will host the Youngstown State Penguins. The two schools, separated by approximately an hour, have met every year since 2013-2014. In 2019, the Colonials fell to the Penguins by an 81-70 mark at Beeghly Center.

One week later, on December 9, the Colonials will head down Interstate 79 to Morgantown, where they will battle the West Virginia Mountaineers at WVU Coliseum. Robert Morris last played West Virginia during the 2010-2011 season, which resulted in an 82-49 defeat for the Colonials.

On December 22, the Colonials will travel to historic Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, where they will be hosted by the Indiana Hoosiers. Archie Miller, the current head coach of Indiana, is a native of Beaver Falls, which is just 20 miles from Robert Morris' campus.

Two additional games are planned, but have not yet had a date announced. The Colonials will host the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and Cleveland State Vikings. Both games are return games from respective agreements with both schools.

In 2019-2020, the Colonials were defeated by the Vikings at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland by a 70-59 score on November 30. One week later, on December 7, the Colonials traveled to Alico Arena in Fort Myers, where they defeated Florida Gulf Coast by a 64-59 tally.

With more games certain to be added, it is comforting news that Robert Morris already has three planned home games on their non-conference schedule. In their first season at UPMC Events Center, the Colonials were only fortunate enough to play three non-conference home games (Pittsburgh, Geneva [Division III], Central Michigan).

Robert Morris is coming off a 2019-2020 season which saw them win 20 games and their conference tournament. The Colonials were set to participate in the 2020 NCAA Tournament before the coronavirus pandemic forced the NCAA to cancel the remainder of their winter and spring sports on March 12.
