The Pittsburgh Panthers' 2020-2021 non-conference schedule is not completely known yet, but it is quickly growing.
Two opponents were recently added to the schedule: the Morgan State Bears and the Drexel Dragons.
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports (via Twitter), Pitt will host Morgan State (of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) at the Petersen Events Center. The date of the game is set for Wednesday, November 25, according to Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
In 2019-2020, the Bears went 15-16 with a 9-7 conference record, finishing in fifth place in the MEAC. They were set to play fourth-seeded Bethune Cookman in the conference tournament prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Morgan State enters their second season under head coach Kevin Broadus. Broadus previously coached at Binghamton, while serving as an assistant for American, George Washington, Georgetown and Maryland.
According to The D1 Docket, the Panthers will also host a cross-state opponent in Drexel (of the Colonial Athletic Association). The game is set to take place on Tuesday, December 15.
In 2019-2020, the Dragons went 14-19 with a 6-12 conference mark, finishing in eighth place in the Colonial. In the conference tournament, Drexel defeated ninth-seeded UNC-Wilmington before falling to top-seeded Hofstra in the tournament quarterfinals.
Drexel will enter their fifth season under head coach Zach Spiker. Spiker, a native of Morgantown, West Virginia, was previously an assistant at Cornell and the head coach for Army.
Justin Jennings, an assistant coach for Drexel, has many ties to the area. He played and served as an assistant at Penn State-Behrend in Erie, while also serving as an assistant at Carnegie Mellon. He currently resides in the Pittsburgh area.
Pitt's non-conference schedule (to this point) also includes previously announced matchups.
The Panthers will travel to the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Friday, November 13 to face rival West Virginia in the final game of a four-year series that began in 2017. West Virginia has won the first three meetings.
From November 19-22, the Panthers will participate in three games at the Myrtle Beach Invitational at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina, on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
During the tournament, Pitt will play three of the following seven teams: Charlotte, Dayton, Loyola(Chicago), Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Utah State.
Pitt is also expected to be invited to compete in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the seventh time in eight years since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. Due to playing Rutgers at home in last year's challenge, Pitt is likely to play on the road for the 2020 edition of the challenge.
