(08.25.2020) Pitt adds Austin Peay as non-conference opponent

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

After losing their lone non-conference meeting for the upcoming 2020 season, the Pitt Panthers were successful in filling their schedule's void.

The team announced on Tuesday that they will play host to the Austin Peay Governors on Saturday, September 12 at Heinz Field. The Governors are a member of the FCS (I-AA)'s Ohio Valley Conference.

The meeting with Austin Peay will fill the hole left by the Miami(Ohio) RedHawks, a member of the Mid-American Conference, who had their season postponed on August 8.

Austin Peay is coming off of a successful season in which they went 11-4 (7-1 Ohio Valley) and finished ranked #8 in the STATS FCS Poll. The Governors, ranked #18 during the FCS Playoffs, advanced all the way to the FCS Playoffs Quarterfinals, where they lost to #5 Montana State.

The Governors enter this season as the #13 team in the STATS FCS Poll. Despite the Ohio Valley Conference postponing conference competition until the Spring of 2021, they are permitting members to compete in three non-conference games during the fall.

Austin Peay will travel to play at Cincinnati on September 19, while also participating in the 2020 FCS Kickoff at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama vs the Central Arkansas Bears this coming Saturday, August 29.

Following the date with the Governors, the Panthers will begin their 10-game Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on September 19 when they welcome the Syracuse Orange to Heinz Field.
