What was sure to be a special night for the Pittsburgh Steelers organization will have to wait another summer.
The 2020 NFL Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremonies and Hall of Fame Game will be postponed and rescheduled for the summer of 2021, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Hall of Fame weekend, held annually in Canton, Ohio, has unofficially become the start of each NFL season, as the Hall of Fame Game is always the season's first preseason game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were set to play in this year's game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, August 6. Pittsburgh was scheduled to have former alumni Bill Cowher (coach), Troy Polamalu and Donnie Harris (safeties) inducted. Dallas was set to have former coach Jimmie Johnson and safety Cliff Harris enshrined.
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, next year's game will take place on Thursday, August 5. The Class of 2020 will be inducted on Saturday, August 7, while the Class of 2021 will be welcomed in on Sunday, August 8.
The Steelers last played in the game in 2015, where they were defeated by the Minnesota Vikings, 14-3.
Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton are located approximately two hours from Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
