Two geographical rivals will be getting back in the swing of things against each other before beginning the 2020 Major League Baseball regular season.
Per Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians will play three "spring training" games prior to beginning their respective seasons on Friday, July 24.
The Pirates will host the Indians at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Saturday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 22. Cleveland will welcome Pittsburgh to Progressive Field on Monday, July 20. Mackey also reports that all three games are expected to be broadcast on radio and television.
The Pirates last played on March 12, when they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida. The Indians, who have not seen the field since March 9, had an off day and two rainouts prior to the league shutting down on the evening of March 12.
Both teams will also play each other six times during the regular season. The Pirates will host the Indians from August 18-August 20, while the Indians will play host to end the regular season from September 25-September 27.
Both teams open the season on Friday, July 24. The Pirates will travel to Busch Stadium for a date with the St. Louis Cardinals, while the Indians will welcome the Kansas City Royals to Progressive Field.
