(07.27.2020) Marlins' positive COVID-19 cases rise to 14

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

It appears as if Major League Baseball has reached their first major hurdle in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic in order to stage the 2020 season.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, fourteen members of the Miami Marlins have tested positive for the virus, including the most recent round in which eight players and two coaches came back positive.

It had been reported on Saturday that multiple Marlins, including Garrett Cooper, Harold Ramirez, Jorge Alfaro and Jose Urena, had tested positive for COVID-19.

Miami, who won two of three meetings in Philadelphia with the Phillies, are now staying in Philadelphia to continually undergo testing. As a result, their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles, scheduled for tonight, has been postponed.

This will be a very interesting and challenging development to follow, as the league is set to combat a very significant hurdle just four days into the new season.

The Phillies, who were scheduled to host the New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia tonight, have also had their game postponed, per Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
