In the final tune-up prior to the beginning of the regular season, the Cleveland Indians finished off an exhibition sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.
Cleveland was victorious, defeating Pittsburgh by a 5-3 score. After defeating the Pirates, 5-3, in Pittsburgh this past Saturday and in Cleveland by an 11-7 tally on Monday, the Indians grabbed their third consecutive victory.
The scoring started in the first inning, when Jose Ramirez scored on an Adam Frazier error and Franmil Reyes singled in Francisco Lindor, giving the Indians an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, Josh Bell tied the contest with a two-run homerun to right field, giving him his second bomb in as many games.
Solo homeruns from Carlos Santana (3rd inning) and Ramirez (5th inning) gave a two-run advantage back to the Tribe, but the Pirates inched closer when Jarrod Dyson doubled in Jason Martin in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 4-3.
Christian Arroyo gave the Indians a little extra insurance with a solo homerun in the top of the ninth inning, and Cleveland shut the door in the inning's bottom half to complete the sweep.
Bell went 2-for-3 with a double and homerun for Pittsburgh, while Derek Holland pitched three innings, allowing five hits and punching out two Indians.
The Indians finish their exhibition schedule with a 10-12 record, while the Pirates wrap up a dismal training camp with a 3-18 record.
The Indians start the season when host the Kansas City Royals on Friday, while the Pirates will be hosted by the St. Louis Cardinals that same day.
